Role: Designer

Created in conjunction with
Chernoff Newman and SCDBHDD

Created in conjunction with Chernoff Newman for the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, this toolkit supports the establishment of January 23rd (1/23) as Naloxone Awareness Day in South Carolina. South Carolina loses hundreds of lives to opioid overdose every year, leading to many preventable with naloxone.

The goal was to shift the public’s perception of naloxone as a niche harm reduction tool to something every household should have.

I designed the logo and a suite of social media graphics with the Chernoff Newman creative team, which were displayed on the Just Plain Killers website for organizations across the state to share in support of the awareness day.

Logo Design

The logo’s look and feel aligns with the Just Plain Killers brand while introducing a custom element — the letter "A" in Naloxone is replaced with an icon of a naloxone nasal spray, with the date 1.23.

The animated version brings the logo to life: the pump moves up and down and a spray releases from the top, giving the viewer an understanding of how naloxone is administered.

Social Media

Each post focused on a different learning aspect of naloxone, from how to access it to how to administer it, while working to normalize its use among the general public. The complete toolkit was made available on the Just Plain Killers website, so that organizations across the state could share the assets on their social media platforms.

Results

The campaign set goals of a 15% increase in total website visits and a 30% increase in Naloxone landing page visits in January 2026 — the results far exceeded both. The homepage saw a 1,189% increase in views and the Naloxone landing page saw a 119% increase compared to the previous January. The toolkit earned media coverage across four TV stations and was picked up by community partners and behavioral health centers statewide.
